AUSTIN — A Texas A&M student who had been missing for little over a week has been discovered dead in Austin, according to a family spokesperson’s social media post on Saturday.
Tanner Hoang, 22 years old, was discovered dead near the Pennybacker Bridge on Loop 360, according to the police. The reason for death is unknown. However, the police do not suspect foul play.
Tanner, 22 years old, was last seen in College Station at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 16, 2022, according to CBS affiliate KBTX.
Tanner’s family announced on social media that they would be in attendance for his graduation. However, it was discovered after his disappearance that he still needed to meet the prerequisites to graduate. Texas A&M verified that he did not participate in the ceremony.
His father said that he texted Tanner around 8:30 a.m., and the message was marked as “read” prior to Tanner’s phone turning off.
Tanner used his debit card to purchase petrol at a station in Caldwell. However, there was no trace of him until last week, when his vehicle was discovered abandoned in Austin at the Pennybacker Bridge Overlook hiking trail off Highway 360 and the Colorado River.
The Hoang family, via a spokesman, said they were moved by the outpouring of community support and the number of individuals who offered their time to look for him.
“This is not the conclusion we had hoped for, but on Christmas Eve, Tanner is now in the arms of his Savior, Joy, and Healer,” a representative posted on Facebook. They sense God’s love for them via the outpouring of tremendous support. They are aware Tanner was cherished by so many.”
