1. Chicago
Chicago might be the most corrupt city in the U.S. It’s had a long history of widespread corruption that hasn’t really changed since the mob times in the 1900s.
In the last decade alone, a huge number—385—of Chicago officials got convicted for crimes. Even five governors got caught, and three went to prison.

2. Vegas
Vegas has a history with the mob, so it’s not a surprise that it’s thought to be one of the most corrupt places in the U.S. Most of the top jobs in Las Vegas are in casinos, which provides a unique power balance that favors the wealthy and powerful.
The casinos have an effect on the city government and often take over space for more casinos without caring about the people who live there.
The number of people living there is also too high for the amount of police officers. Vegas has always been and probably always will be a place where greed rules.
3. New Orleans
New Orleans had a problem with corruption even before Hurricane Katrina. But things became far worse following the hurricane.
According to a 2007 survey, corruption cases have surged significantly—more than five times since Katrina. Between 2003 and 2007, federal investigators indicted 171 persons, including the president of a school board. It’s really disappointing.
4. Detroit
Detroit is a place that is known for a lot of corruption. Many problems, such as crime, have affected the people who live there.
Recent incidents have revealed cases of corruption, fraud and misuse of public funds involving city officials and employees.
These awful incidents, such as fraud cases in the past and issues involving former leaders, have made people more aware of the need for honesty and openness.
5. New Jersey and Philadelphia
The FBI monitored both New Jersey and Philadelphia. Investigators were looking into whether the city government and police force were corrupt. Some high-level police officers and city leaders were captured.
Even the beer business was overseen by a city official and a lawyer who had connections to a mobster named Lou “Bent Finger” Monticello. There are also 37 priests under investigation in Philadelphia for alleged child abuse.
6. Newark’s
Newark is also regarded as a corrupted city. In 2009, the deputy mayor of Newark stepped down the same week that a major corruption investigation was made public. About 80 city leaders were being looked into by Mayor Booker, who promised to stop corruption.
