Street Race Crash Ejects Corvette Driver 154 Feet, Car Smashed to Pieces

Authorities and a local source state that during a suspected street race on Saturday morning in Florida, a Corvette crashed and burst apart, critically injuring the driver.

When firefighters arrived at the scene of the reported car crash near the intersection of State Highway 200 and SW 80th Street shortly before 8:30 a.m., they discovered the white Corvette shattered “in pieces,” according to Marion County Fire Rescue.

Witness accounts stated that the car had slammed off the road, struck a power post, and then exploded. According to fire officials, the highway was momentarily stopped due to downed power lines.

The Corvette’s driver was taken to a nearby hospital after being labeled a “Trauma Alert.” The only person inside the car was the driver. According to the Ocala Star Banner, the Florida Highway Patrol stated that street racing is thought to have been the cause of the collision.

According to troopers who spoke with the newspaper, the Corvette and a silver Ford Mustang were reportedly racing on the highway toward the west when the Mustang cut the Corvette off, causing the Corvette to swerve and collide with another vehicle.

According to troopers, the Corvette crashed through the power pole and struck a tree after hitting the second vehicle. The driver was thrown 154 feet from the wreckage and the Corvette was torn into at least four large pieces.

There was no immediate word on the Corvette driver’s injuries. About the collision, troopers have requested assistance from the public in identifying the driver of the Ford Mustang.

The driver of the Mustang was described as a White man with two tattoos on his right forearm and a well-groomed beard. It is estimated that he weighs between 225 and 250 pounds and is between 5 feet, 8 inches and 6 feet tall.
