One Hospitalized After Shots Fired In Horton Street, Salem

An early Monday morning gunshot in Salem, Massachusetts, is being looked into by the police. Around 8:30 a.m., Salem police reported on social media that the shooting had taken place near Horton Street and Jefferson Avenue.

“It is believed to be an isolated incident and there is no ongoing danger to the public,” they said in reference to the gunshot. But as of Monday afternoon, no one has been taken into custody.

After the shooting, one individual was hurt and is now healing in a local hospital. His identity remains undisclosed.

Lucas Miller, the chief of Salem Police, stated, “All we know is that there was a shooting behind me here and it’s under active investigation.”

A neighbor named Lori, who wished to remain anonymous, stated that the shooting was out of the ordinary for the peaceful area.

“The only thing that happens in this neighborhood is coyotes running around,” she continued. “it’s very quiet, peaceful.”

It was four or five gunshots, she stated. “I jumped up and was like, ‘That couldn’t be gunshots,'” she recalled. Shortly after those bullets were fired, her Ring home security camera caught a car leaving the house.

The police had set up multiple gunshot marks in the driveway of the house while they carried out more investigation.
