Interstate 70 Westbound Shut Down Following Major Accident!

Late on Saturday afternoon, as a patient was being removed from the scene of a severe collision, westbound traffic on Interstate 70 was stopped.

A local emergency official verified there had been an accident on I-70 at about milepost 206, two miles west of the Belmont/Morristown exit, around 3:26 p.m. on Saturday. The Cumberland Trail Fire District dispatched an engine, a squad, and responders to the area.

No section of the roadway had been closed as of 3:27 p.m., according to an Ohio State roadway Patrol dispatcher. However, she declined to comment on the collision, pointing out that officers were still coming.

By 3:40 p.m., there was a medical helicopter visible approaching the area, and traffic was starting to back up toward Belmont County Road 26.

After touching down in the interstate’s westbound lanes, the chopper took off a few minutes later. According to the emergency authority, it was carrying a single patient.
