George County Deputy Shot And Killed on US-98, Authorities Investigating

The George County Sheriff’s Office has released a statement in response to the deputy’s death on Thursday. According to the press statement, the deputy, named Jeremy Malone, was shot and died while doing a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 98 in Lucedale, close to the intersection of Brushy Creek Road.

Additionally, George County Sheriff’s Office deputy Jeremy McSwain, the chief of Beaumont Police, verified that the deputy was shot during the encounter and died.

The deputy was approaching the vehicle when the suspect fatally shot him, according to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation. After that, the suspect left the area.

The unidentified suspect led a car chase out of George County with the assistance of other law enforcement personnel and agencies. The chase came to a stop outside of Beaumont’s city boundaries in Perry County.

According to the MBI, several shots were fired during the suspect’s engagement with the George County Sheriff’s Office and the Mississippi Highway Patrol near Beaumont. It was here that the individual sustained fatal injuries. The MBI is looking into the event.
