Four people, including a pregnant woman and a teenager, were killed in a massive 46-vehicle pileup crash on the snowy Ohio Turnpike on Friday.
WTOL reported that three victims were identified as 59-year-old Bernard M. Bloniarz of Napoleon, OH; 19-year-old Emma L. Smith of Webberville, MI; and 37-year-old Julie E. Roth of Toledo.
Police say they won’t be able to release the identity of the fourth victim until they’ve notified their family of the tragedy.
At least 57 people, including 28 in the Buffalo area, were killed in the miles-long crash near milepost 106 on the Ohio Turnpike during deadly “whiteout conditions” brought on by winter storm Elliott, which battered the US with freezing temperatures and heavy snow.
A 30-year Toledo Fire & Rescue Department veteran told WTOL, “I’ve never seen anything like it.” “It was one of the worst calls I’ve ever taken.”

On Friday between 11:45 and 12:30, multiple accidents occurred between State Route 53 and State Route 4 in Sandusky and Erie Counties, according to officials who spoke to WTVG.
Officials reported that a second crash occurred at 12:30 p.m., which triggered the formation of the massive pileup. OSHP Sgt. Ryan Purpura estimated that “approximately 50 vehicles” were involved in the collision.
