Police Blotter in Oak Brook-Three Women are Accused of Stealing Children’s Boots Worth $4267
On Wednesday, three women accused of stealing children’s boots from a Nordstrom Rack in Oak Brook, ramming a police cruiser, and leading officers on a chase that ended on the Tri-State Tollway appeared in bail court.
On Wednesday, Chicago residents Doniesha Crew (age 23), Terrance Reed (age 37), and Jaquay Shines (age 25) all had court appearances in Wheaton, in DuPage County. Bond was imposed at $350,000 for Chew and Reed and $150,000 for Shines by Judge Michael Reidy.
One crime of burglary, one count of aggravated assault by threat with a motor vehicle, and one count of criminal damage to government-supported property are all filed against all three offenders, as are three counts of aggravated fleeing and eluding a police officer.
On Tuesday at 2:45 p.m., the Nordstrom Rack, located at 2155 22nd St., west of the Oakbrook Center Mall, called the Oak Brook police to report a theft.
Prosecutors claim that Chew, Shines, and Reed entered a Nordstrom Rack shoe department together, with Chew carrying empty bags. Prosecutors claim that Reed removed four pairs of children’s boots from their packaging, placed them in the bags the group brought, and then returned the packaging to the shelves.

As officers approached, they activated their emergency lights and sirens, at which point the Mazda 6, believed to be involved in the theft, crashed head-on into one of the police vehicles. This is according to the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s office. After that, prosecutors claim, Chew sped off in the Mazda, heading west on 22nd Street at speeds of over 100 mph as law enforcement from many different jurisdictions gave chase.
On Oak Brook police gave chase to the vehicle from Highland Avenue eastbound on the Ronald Reagan Memorial Tollway (I-88), then southbound on the Tri-State Tollway, then northbound for about 150 feet on I-55, and finally southbound on the Tri-State Tollway. A Mazda had stalled on the Tri-State Highway just south of 75th Street. According to Habermehl, spike strips have been installed.
Reed, the prosecution claims, jumped out of the car and ran away after being pulled over, only to be caught a hundred yards down the road. Prosecutors claim that Chew and Shines remained in the vehicle and were also taken into custody. At the same time, an unmarked police vehicle was hit by a semi-trailer truck while on the scene. A cop was hurt, but his wounds weren’t life-threatening.
As Tuesday’s afternoon rush hour began, the response caused traffic on the southbound Tri-State to become backed up to Cermak Plaza. Getting through gridlock is like “stuffing a bowling ball through a funnel,” as Habermehl put it.
