Winter Storm Aspen Turns Hartford County Roads Into Slushy Hazards: Traveler Beware!
By Sunday morning, the cities and villages in Hartford County had slushy roadways due to Winter Storm Aspen. Crews from the Hartford, Connecticut, Department of Public Works have been cleaning them.
They said that the primary “A” routes, including highways and hospitals, have been their primary focus. They’ve received numerous clearances.
Every street had been traversed at least once as of just before five in the morning, DPW personnel informed Channel 3. In the vicinity of Union Station, they also had teams shoveling and salting sidewalks.
Eyewitness News interviewed a plow driver regarding his first-hand experience plowing city streets. “It’s way different,” said Jakeel John, a new Hartford plow driver. “These guys, they help me out.”
In different locations of the city, several tree limbs were reported to have fallen onto the streets. There weren’t any significant power disruptions, though. Due to the amount of snow on Sunday morning, outages continued to be a possibility.
The heavy, wet snow in Newington caused some hazardous patches throughout the town. On the Berlin Turnpike, plow drivers were in action. Plow drivers continued to stop by the Olympia Diner despite the slick patches.

“Usually they are pulling all nighters,” explained Elleni Gavrilis, a server at Olympia Diner. “They’re usually pretty fun and really nice.”
