Upcoming America COMPETES Act Will Benefit Businesses And Workers In A Huge Way

President Joe Biden signed the $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill into law in November, releasing funds for transportation, broadband, and clean water infrastructure projects.

The president argued in favor of his administration’s $1.75 trillion proposals, which would promote climate policy while also providing a social safety net for the unemployed. However, this was put on hold because it was unable to garner a majority of support in the Senate.

As stated in an opinion piece published in The Hill, United States Representative Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said the Make It in America Act was the culmination of a years-long process to begin the repair, replacement, and/or upgrading of critical infrastructure across the country.

According to him, the plan has been focused on collecting the best ideas from both sides of the political aisle and transforming them into policies that will benefit American businesses and workers, among other things.

After years of failed attempts, the bill is expected to result in a significant increase in spending.

He stated that Congress is about to consider enactment of the remainder of that agenda, which will include consideration of the America COMPETES Act of 2022, which will take effect in 2022.

According to Hoyer, the bill will “strengthen our national security by strengthening our supply chains and ensuring that we can build in America the semiconductors and microchips that our industries require in order to lead the world in advanced manufacturing.”

He asserted that the bill offers a chance to achieve bipartisan results because many of the ideas contained within it were developed through bipartisan collaboration.

As Hoyer wrote in his letter, “I hope that the differences between the Senate and the House can be resolved quickly, as we were able to do with the infrastructure bill last year.”

“If we are successful in doing so, it will be a major victory for our country, for our economic competitiveness, and for the ability of all of our businesses and workers to Make It In America,”.
