The Chicago Police Department is looking into a shooting that left two men wounded in the Back of the Yards area while they waited for their food at a fast food joint.
Around 3:45 p.m., a robbery occurred at Super Star & Gyros, located at 1159 W. 47th St., close to Racine Avenue.
Two men, ages 24 and 25, were reportedly waiting for their lunch at the restaurant when shots were fired.
More than thirty shot casings were discovered at the scene, according to CBS 2’s Charlie De Mar. The Super Star & Gyros restaurant took at least a dozen bullets.
Alvaro Jimenez, the owner, was in the kitchen when gunfire broke out. “We heard a loud “Bam!” followed by silence before they fell down.
Following that, they sped off in different directions. It moved at a breakneck pace.
It was like I had no words, no action, and I just couldn’t.” Chicago police officers spent hours there, gathering information from the restaurant’s front and interior.
It’s possible that some employees cooperated with authorities and offered access to any security footage that might have captured the shooting.
After being struck, they drove to a firehouse at 44th Street and Ashland Avenue, about three blocks from the incident.
Both victims remain in critical condition at the University of Chicago Medical Center and Stroger Hospital. According to the police, nobody is being held.
