According to San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins, members of the Pelosi family had access to the 911 call and body camera footage from the attack on Paul Pelosi on October 28. Jenkins also made it clear that the materials won’t be made available to the public any time soon.
Jenkins stated that a meeting with the Pelosi family to discuss the evidence was planned for Wednesday and emphasized that the Pelosi attack had been “politically motivated.” “Limited members are permitted to view the tape of that meeting because it is now taking place so they can get answers to any issues they may have. However, there are only a small number of family members present, and that should be happening right now.”
Jenkins justified the choice by law enforcement not to immediately make the evidence available to the public without providing any information regarding which specific members were given access to the data on Wednesday or any other specifics of what they might have seen. When asked if there is a “public interest” in releasing these files, host Wolf Blitzer questioned her. She responded negatively, stating that her main concern is preserving the investigation and the prosecution’s ability to succeed.
The alleged assailant, David DePape, 42, pleaded not guilty Tuesday to a plethora of counts brought by Jenkins’ office, including attempted murder, domestic burglary, assault with a deadly weapon, elder abuse, wrongful confinement of age, and threats to a public official. According to Jenkins, he could be sentenced to 13 years to life in prison for the crimes.
Nancy Pelosi is the speaker of the House, and DePape allegedly broke into the Pelosi residence last Friday to inquire about her whereabouts (D-CA). If the speaker did not tell DePape the “truth,” he allegedly threatened to shatter “her kneecaps.” At one time, Paul Pelosi was able to elude capture and dial 911.
According to investigators, the responding officers later saw DePape hit Paul Pelosi with a hammer. According to a representative for his wife, Paul Pelosi, 82, was taken to a hospital for treatment of a “skull fracture and major damage to his right arm and hands.”
Nancy Pelosi stated on Monday that Paul “is making steady progress on what will be a long healing process.” The speaker’s office made the announcement that she would be coming back soon even though she wasn’t in San Francisco at the time of the incident.
Jenkins stated without elaborating that DePape’s criminal background gave law enforcement nothing “that would have to lead anybody to believe that he was capable of what he ultimately did.”
But the suspect’s online pursuits have drawn attention. According to numerous reports, he disseminated conspiracy theories and radical views on social media concerning everything from the Capitol riot to the COVID-19 vaccines.
Jenkins claimed that this was politically driven. He intended to use violence against [the speaker] and other members of the state and national political leadership. DePape is being held without bond and is scheduled to appear in court again on Friday for a hearing on bail.
