Lafayette Police Arrest Two Vehicle Thieves After Wrong-Way Chase on Highway 24
This week, following a brief pursuit that ended with them going up the wrong side of a freeway ramp, Lafayette police detained two guys for allegedly stealing a motorcycle and another car.
At about 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, a license plate-reading camera in the 3300 block of Mt. Diablo Boulevard reported a stolen car to the police.
ALPR cameras lead officers to another arrest:
When the car left the 1000 block of Carol Lane, officers discovered it. When the stolen car drove the wrong way up the off-ramp to westbound state Highway 24, police stopped the pursuit of the stolen car for the sake of public safety. The stolen car quickly started to accelerate away.

After getting out of the car, two suspects ran away on foot. A brief chase concluded with the capture of one.
Police received a report of a male acting strangely in a nearby neighborhood shortly after, leading them to suspect that the driver of the stolen car had left. When the police showed up there, they took the man into custody on an unpaid warrant.
The two cars were subsequently given back to their owners after the two suspects were taken to the Martinez Detention Facility.
