Cuellar and Abbott Fires at AOC’s Campaign for Supporting South Texas Candidate

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14), a member of the House of Representatives, rallied for two Democratic candidates in Texas over the weekend.

During her trip to San Antonio and Austin, Ocasio-Cortez promoted Jessica Cisneros and Greg Casar, two democratic candidates running for separate U.S. Congressional seats.

In Texas’ 28th Congressional District, which extends from Hidalgo and Starr counties all the way up to San Antonio, Cisneros is seeking to defeat incumbent Henry Cuellar accoding to Valley Central.

The Congresswoman from New York expressed her belief that Texas was turning blue and elect democratic leaders in the future.

Among other things, she discussed the state’s collapsed power grid during the February 2021 freeze, abortion rights, police brutality, and student loan debt.

Ocasio-Cortez, however, noted that all voters should care about values regardless of party affiliation.

The progressive stance of Cisneros has attracted Ocasio-Cortez’s support.

Among the other things the Democratic hopeful plans to accomplish are fixing the immigration system, establishing universal healthcare, ensuring access to abortion for anyone who needs it, and putting South Texas on the map for renewable energy.

Cisneros lost her primary race to Cuellar by four percentage points in March 2020. As a much more moderate Democrat than Cisneros intends to be, Cuellar has held his position since 2005.

Cuellar criticized Ocasio-Cortez’s campaign visit and said the election would not be swayed by “far-left celebrities.”

More so, in response to Ocasio-Cortez’s visit, Governor Greg Abbott said she wants “to kill the Texas Miracle.” This is in response to Ocasio-Cortez’s desire to “unionize the hell” out of Texas.

Abbott said Beto O’Rourke’s plan to repeal Texas’ Right-To-Work laws would also end the “Texas Miracle.”
