Child Tax Credit: Recent Update Allows Address Change

Good news! Families can now avoid delays in mailing or checks considered “undeliverable” with the new update by the International Revenue Service for the Child Tax Credit program.

This new feature allows new addresses to be input into the system which will then be used for any and all future IRS correspondence.

Furthermore, families can:

  • verify their eligibility on the portal;
  • have the ability to switch from receiving a paper check to direct deposit;
  • change the account where their payment is direct deposited;
  • stop monthly payments for the rest of 2021.

For new address changes to reflect on your September payments, the IRS advises changing any necessary information until August 30.

Another benefit of this change is that members will be receiving a year-end summary statement of payments of the child tax credit, which will be sent through the address on file.

This record, which will be called Letter 6419, is necessary to quickly and accurately fill out your 2021 federal income tax return next year. This ensures that you will receive the entirety of your benefit.

Apart from this, the document may also be utilized to opt out of any payments or as a record in case there are any discrepancies with the amount you received.

To change your mailing address, access the Child Tax Credit Update Portal which is exclusively found on irs.gov. The IRS has also released a portal where you can check for further information. You can access it here: IRS.gov/childtaxcredit2021.
