Tragic Collision In Gallatin County: One Fatality And One Injured
On Thursday, January 4, 2024, a two-vehicle collision in Gallatin County resulted in the death of a lady and the injuries of a man.
Gallatin County Dispatch received reports of a driver traveling the wrong way on Interstate 90 at mile marker 294 at approximately 1:26 a.m. The Montana Highway Patrol reports that the suspect car, a Buick Enclave, was traveling west in the eastbound lanes.
According to a news release from the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office, the Buick “subsequently caused a head-on collision with another vehicle at mile marker 278.”
The only person inside the second car was the driver, a 22-year-old Townsend resident who was driving a Ford Expedition when she passed away at the site. The individual’s name is still a secret.
The Buick’s driver, a Bozeman resident of 23 years old, was transported to Bozeman Health Deaconess Regional Medical Center. The Sheriff’s Office has not yet released the suspect’s identity and the type and extent of his injuries.
The MHP is still looking into the crash with the help of the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office and claims that drinking and driving too fast were factors in it.

The deceased woman was recognized as Laysa Grewell by her family. She was her young daughter’s only provider, according to a GoFundMe campaign.
“She loved her family to her core and would do anything for them,” wrote Shaylee Gaudenzi, the sister of Grewell’s boyfriend who organized the fundraiser. “She was a fighter she was a very strong woman who was trying to better herself and was working so hard on being the best she could for her and her family.”
