Texas DPS Identifies Smyer Woman In Hockley County Crash
Two vehicles collided in Hockley County early on Tuesday morning; one person was killed and the other injured, according to officials. The Hockley County Sheriff’s Office reported one fatality in the collision that occurred near the intersection of State Highway 114 and FM 168 South of Smyer on Tuesday at approximately 11:40 a.m.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, investigators suspect that Rachael Leigh Nuskind (Etheridge), 32, of Smyer, was driving a 2022 Kia Soul north on FM 168 south of SH 114 while a 2011 Dodge Ram was headed east on SH 114 west of FM 168.
The cars crashed at the intersection because the Soul did not yield the right of way at the stop sign. At the scene, Nuskind was pronounced deceased.

Levelland resident Santiago Samarron, 68, who was operating the Dodge Ram, received medical attention on the spot. Adriana Samarron, 64, of Levelland, was his passenger. She suffered severe injuries and was transported to Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock. It was reported that all three had on seatbelts.
While the DPS conducts its investigation, other circumstances that may have contributed to the incident were initially unclear.
