Stafford County Shooting: Westmoreland Man Wanted in Murder Investigation

Authorities are looking for a 29-year-old man who is wanted for murder in a shooting that happened in Stafford County on Saturday morning.

At 12:23 a.m., deputies were called to the 100 block of Deacon Road for a shooting. When they arrived, they found a 33-year-old guy from King George with “several gunshot wounds,” according to a news release from the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office.

The person was given first aid by deputies and taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died on Saturday morning.

Westmoreland man wanted for murder in Stafford County shooting:

Based on their research, detectives have found the suspect to be Darren Jamal Newman, 29, of Westmoreland County.

The sheriff’s office said Newman is wanted for second-degree murder, using a gun to commit a crime, and having a gun while being a convicted felon.

The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office can be reached at 540-658-4400 or 911 if anyone knows where Newman is. Newman is highly likely to be armed and dangerous. The dark-colored car that was used in the murder has been found.

“Thank you to the deputies and Fire and Rescue personnel for their work to try and save the victim. Please keep the victim’s family in your thoughts and prayers,” the release said. “The victim’s name is not being released at this time.”
