Red Cross Is Dealing With a Critical Shortage of Blood. Here’s How You Can Donate.

The American Red Cross is pushing people to donate blood in the wake of an acute shortage of blood and platelets.

According to Meghan Lehman, a spokesman for the American Red Cross’s Michigan Region, the organization is witnessing record low blood supply levels. The Red Cross is especially asking for people who have never given blood before to step forward and donate.

She claims that contributions are utilized to save lives, whether they are given to a car accident victim or a new mother who requires a blood transfusion after giving birth to her child.

To satisfy the needs of patients and hospitals across the country, Lehman adds, “we must collect at least 10,000 additional blood products each week.” “We are in a catastrophic situation,” he says.

Donations, according to Lehman, have been unusually low since the fall due to the pandemic, but she points out that people are eligible to contribute regardless of their vaccination status or COVID-19 exposure history.

According to Lehman, the entire donation process takes approximately one hour from beginning to end.

Blood donation is a relatively simple approach to making a significant difference in the lives of our neighbors. “A single gift has the potential to save up to three lives.”

A total of six chapters and nine Blood Donation Centers are located throughout the state of Michigan, according to the American Red Cross of Michigan Region.
