Don’t live in New Jersey if you’re the sort of person who likes to “live off the grind” and escape from daily stress.
In a research study, “We examined the 50 states based on 23 critical characteristics. They were the cost of farmland, the legality of self-generated utilities, and the availability of renewable energy.”
Iowa, the Best State
The people at LawnStarter selected 2023’s best and worst places to “live off the ground.”

Some of the things that were looked at were the weather, the phone service, and how easy it was to get to remote hospitals.
According to the survey, Iowa is the best state for going off the grid. It also has the “highest probability of surviving on your own in the wilderness,” as per LawnStarter’s third annual rating.
New Jersey at the Bottom Five
Texas is in second place, followed by Oklahoma, Minnesota, and Kentucky.
Massachusetts, Maryland, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and New Jersey round out the bottom five in that order.
Even though living off the grid would make you feel alone, you wouldn’t be, the research claims.

In the US, there are now over 250,000 individuals who live off the grid, and more will follow. By 2035, up to 12% of all Americans, according to some predictions, would live off the grid.
