Lake County Sheriff’s Chase of 3 Stolen Cars Ends in Arrest

Three stolen cars were involved in a police pursuit that came to an arrest in Waukegan on Friday morning.

Deputies from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a stolen car in the 1100 block of Bellows Way in Volo just after 7:55 a.m.

According to the victim, his 2022 Kia Stinger was stolen from his driveway. Two individuals can be seen in the security film getting out of a white SUV, getting into the Kia, and then driving off.

The Kia was found by deputies using real-time tracking and traffic cameras. It was traveling in a group with a black Dodge Charger and a white Hyundai Tucson.

The Dodge was reported stolen from Lindenhurst, while the Hyundai was verified to have been taken from Lincolnshire and connected to a previous attempt at carjacking in Round Lake.

All three of the drivers escaped as deputies tried to pull over their cars in Beach Park near Green Bay Road and 33rd Street.

They spent around four miles pursuing the vehicles. The Kia and Hyundai pulled down a Waukegan side street, while the Dodge kept going south.

Both occupants of the Kia fled after the driver damaged a utility pole close to Williamsburg Drive and Berwick Boulevard.

A deputy quickly caught one of them, while the other allegedly got into the stolen Hyundai before running away once more.

There were no reported injuries. The 18-year-old motorist who was arrested is being held while the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office conducts an investigation.
