Valid Excuses for Absentee Voting
If you choose to state one of the following reasons on your application, it activates special conditions that simplify the use of absentee ballots:
Physical Incapacity: Voters who are physically incapacitated, as well as those caring for physically incapacitated individuals who cannot be left unattended, are eligible for absentee voting.
They can apply through various methods, including mail, fax, email, online, or via an agent who is at least 16 years old and not employed by or closely related to anyone on the ballot.
Nursing Home Residents: If you are confined to a nursing home within the county, you can vote absentee. An Absentee Voting Board will visit the nursing home before the election, set up a small polling place, and facilitate voting in a manner similar to regular precinct polling.
Military Personnel and Overseas Residents: Military personnel, residents of the county living overseas, and their dependents can vote absentee without prior registration. They can apply through mail, email, or fax.
Military personnel can contact the Voting Service Officers in their units for application forms and information, while overseas residents can obtain the necessary materials from U.S. military installations, United States Embassies, and Consulates.
By applying for an absentee ballot early and understanding your options, you can ensure your voice is heard in the upcoming elections.
