COVID Fatigue to Blame For Biden’s Low Approval Ratings?

COVID-19 might be partly to blame for President Joe Biden’s low approval ratings, House Speaker Jen Psaki said.

This comes after a new Washington Post and ABC News poll showed new ratings of economic discontentment among Americans.

“The Post-ABC poll also showcases Americans’ current pessimism: Despite a mix of economic signals — falling unemployment and rising prices — 70 percent rate the economy negatively, including 38 percent who say it is in “poor” condition,” The Washington Post said.

“About half of Americans overall and political independents blame Biden for fast-rising inflation, and more than 6 in 10 Americans say he has not accomplished much after 10 months in office, including 71 percent of independents.”

The numbers released on Sunday showed President Joe Biden’s approval rating at 41%, which is a nine point drop since June 30. Biden’s approval numbers have dropped in every Washington Post-ABC News poll since April when his rating was at 52%.

The polling results were collected between Nov. 7 and Nov. 10, which was following the passage of a $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill that received bipartisan support from lawmakers after months of congressional stalemate over how much money should be included in it, and for what.

“We see that in poll after poll,” Psaki said of the COVID fatigue, “in your poll, in many other polls that have come out around the country. People are sick and tired of COVID and the impacts on the economy.”

“We understand that,” Psaki continued, “we’re tired of it too. That’s why this is the number one priority – continues to be – getting COVID under control.”

Psaki also reiterated the importance of the Build Back Better plan as a priority of the Biden administration, despite the presence of low ratings.

“How we have spent our time, and how our time has been consumed here, is by getting this bill across the finish line,” Psaki added. “There’s absolutely no regrets about that.”

She continued, “This is going to continue America moving again, make a fundamental difference in people’s lives. But it hasn’t allowed for all of the time we would typically be out there talking about the benefits, as the bill was not finalized – it wasn’t finished.

We are looking forward and eager to do that.”
