Betty Gerzel Married life
Betty fell in love with Edward Kirn, the love of her life, and they were married. They lived in a two-flat on Lenox Avenue in North Chicago, Illinois. They brought up their three kids there—Karen, Elizabeth, and Michael—until Edward tragically died in an accident.
After serving as a homemaker for 14 years and becoming widowed at the age of 38, Betty started working in the payroll division of Fansteel Metallurgics.
She later got a job processing water bills for the North Chicago City Clerk’s office, from which she retired at the age of 63. In 1966, Betty married Thomas J. Gerzel, her second husband, after meeting him. Up until Tommy’s death in 1990, theirs was a love tale filled with humor, travel, dancing, golf, family, and friends.
Betty was a gifted individual! She studied oil painting and was extremely good at it. Numerous pieces of art that are now valued assets for her family were made by her natural talent for painting and meticulous attention to detail.

She was a skilled seamstress, and when her two kids were little, she produced elaborate dancing costumes for recitals. She started using her sewing skills to make Care Bears, blankets, and other gifts once she had grandchildren.
Betty eventually used those same skills to pursue learning how to knit and crochet, which she did with great pleasure. For her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids, she made lovely doll sweaters, baby blankets, scarves, and afghans.
