18-Wheeler Crash on I-65 South Injures Driver, Causes Traffic Delays in Giles County

A commercial vehicle rolled over on Interstate 65 in Giles County, Tennessee, on Sunday afternoon, causing major traffic delays. The 18-wheeler collided around 1:30 p.m. on I-65 South near mile marker 19.6, triggering an emergency response from Giles County Fire and Rescue.

Driver Airlifted to Hospital in Huntsville

Due to worries about the driver’s condition, emergency personnel, assisted by Giles County EMS, pulled the driver from the wreckage as soon as possible. After that, the injured driver was taken to a hospital in Huntsville, Alabama.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP), there is currently no information available regarding the nature of the driver’s injuries.

Secondary Crash Compounds Traffic Woes

First responders stated they had to send in a clean-up crew and close one of the two southbound travel lanes due to the size of the incident.

Then, while traffic on I-65 South was halted and jammed into a single lane, fire officials reported another crash. However, the two-car collision resulted in just minor injuries.

“There has been no shortage of teamwork this past week. All emergency services have showed up and showed out,” Giles County Fire & Rescue said on Facebook late Sunday night.

“Thank you to all of those who took part in the work done. From the ones who called 911 to the ones who clean up after the incidents.”

Lane Closure Remains in Effect for Hours

The Tennessee Department of Transportation’s (TDOT) online traffic map still showed the southbound right lane and right shoulder of I-65 restricted at mile marker 19.6 due to a single-vehicle incident over nine hours earlier at 10:25 p.m.

No further details have been provided concerning the interstate crashes in Giles County on Sunday.
