The Prevent Exposure to Narcotics and Toxins Act of 2022, presented by U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown, will supply drug containment devices to frontline border patrol officials and provide training on how to use them.
Additionally, this measure expands upon Brown’s INTERDICT Act, which was enacted in 2018, and gives U.S. Customs and Border Protection more sophisticated screening tools and lab facilities to find fentanyl before it enters the country.
“In far too many cases, our police are not equipped with what they need to do to prevent fentanyl from getting into the country and getting into the hands of people who it can ultimately kill. We want to make sure police officers are safe.”
The act mandates that all frontline border patrol agents acquire containment devices—a vital instrument for securely storing illicit drugs—and get training for their work.
