Two more Lincoln Park couples were robbed overnight as North Side robberies escalate

Two different couples were robbed at gunpoint while strolling through Lincoln Park early on Sunday morning, according to Chicago police.

Since Monday, robberies have occurred nearly every night on the North Side and in the downtown area.

A Chicago police spokeswoman has reported that the following instances have occurred recently:

At 2:25 a.m., three robbers approached a man and a woman who was strolling in the 2600 block of North Burling.

The robber brandished a gun and demanded money and valuables. After one of the victims attempted to kick the thief, a struggle broke out.

Each of the criminals escaped in a stealthy car of a similar hue.

Around 3 a.m., a man and a woman in the 500 block of West Belden were robbed at gunpoint.

Three armed robbers approached the victims from close range. It appears as though the group escaped in a black sedan, possibly an Acura, and took off east on Belden.

On Monday, two different couples were robbed at gunpoint in Lincoln Park.

Chicago Police Department spokeswoman Kellie Bartoli stated that a black SUV pulled up in the 400 block of West Arlington, and several men wearing ski masks stepped out while brandishing weapons.

At about 10:50 p.m., two thieves climbed into a parked car’s rear seat and demanded the driver and passenger’s possessions.

After committing the heist, the thugs got back into the SUV and continued south on Lakeview Avenue.

In the 2000 block of North Orleans, at around 11:10 p.m., three masked guys approached a couple from behind.

Bartoli claimed that one of the perpetrators pulled a revolver and demanded the victims get on the floor.

The woman, 26, and the man, 27, acted accordingly. Bartoli said the robbers made off to the south in a grey SUV with tinted windows after seizing stuff from their victims.

She hypothesized that Mitsubishi Outlanders or Nissan Murano was the getaway cars. Authorities released no descriptions of the robbers.

Uptown was the primary target of a series of robberies that occurred late on Tuesday night and early on Wednesday.

In the early hours of Thursday, police in West Rogers Park and the Northwest Side responded to reports of three robberies and two carjackings, all of which are thought to have been done by the same group of between six and eight perpetrators.

Early Saturday morning, there was a rash of carjackings and robberies in West Rogers Park and the central business district.

No one knows for sure how many gangs are behind the recent uptick in robberies.

According to Chicago police data, robbery reports are up 15 percent so far this year.

Records suggest that holdups are 11% higher than in 2020 and 2019 but 10% lower than in 2018.
