EL MONTE, CA (KABC) – According to a department statement, El Monte Police Chief Ben Lowry passed away on Monday due to unspecified health issues. He was 45.
“Our prayers and thoughts are with the family at this trying time of Lowry family.” “We are all in mourning for the loss of a great leader, man, husband, son, friend, and colleague,” said Acting Police Chief Jake Fisher in a statement announced in a statement.
The dedication to the Department and the people of El Monte will be remembered forever by Chief Lowry. Throughout his tenure, he demonstrates his love for El Monte by leading with compassion and unity. I am grateful for the years I have known and served with Chief Lowry.”
The exact cause of his death is unknown.
Lowry began his law enforcement career with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in 2000. Then two years later, he joins the El Monte Police Department.
Following his leadership following the fatal shootings of Corporal Michael Paredes and Officer Joseph Santana of the El Monte Police Department. Lowry gets appointed as interim police chief in December 2021. Officially appointed chief in June 2022.
Lowry worked in Field Services, Administrative Services, Patrol Division, Traffic Safety Bureau, Community Relations Office, School Resource Officer Program, Detective Bureau, Gang and Narcotics Unit, and Records Bureau. According to the El Monte Police Department.
Funeral and memorial services are yet to announce. But a procession from Glendora’s Foothill Community Presbyterian Church to Covina Hills’ Forest Lawn Cemetery took place.
