$1M In Cash, $2M In Luxury Cars, 200 Catalytic Converter Pallets Seized In Federal NJ Bust

Eight local arrests were made in a Homeland Security operation, including six in Newark, as part of a national crackdown on a sizable catalytic converter and stolen automobile ring.

In the course of the investigation, HSI and FBI investigators recovered more than 200 pallets of catalytic converters, $2 million worth of exotic cars, $1 million in cash, 29 ounces of gold bars, jewelry, and pricey handbags.

According to Special Agent In Charge Ricky J. Patel of HSI Newark, “This criminal business involves numerous suspects around the nation.” In eight states, 21 people in total were detained.
