What to Do with Letter 6419 from the IRS

In the next few days, families who received the child tax credit payment in 2021 are expected to receive a letter from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) detailing the payment recipient got.

The agency declared that it would begin to send out letters to people who received Child Tax Credit payments, as well as to people who received money from the third round of Economic Impact Payments, but these will arrive towards the end of January.

The idea behind this is to try and reduce the number of errors and delays there could be when it comes to the IRS processing tax returns.

The name of the Child Tax Credit letter that people receive is ‘Letter 6419, 2021 advance CTC’, and it will be sent from late December and continue into January

This letter will have the total amount of advance Child Tax Credit payments that eligible people received in 2021 and the number of qualifying children, which helped calculate the advance payments.

The advice from the IRS is to keep this and other letters from the IRS about Child Tax Credit payments with your tax records.

You will have to compare the advance Child Tax Credit payments you received with the amount you can claim on your 2021 tax return with regard to Child Tax Credit.
