Tragic Incident: Pedestrian Dies in Lake County Car Collision

A devastating incident occurred in Lake County early Wednesday morning, resulting in the tragic death of a 55-year-old Leesburg man.

The Florida Highway Patrol reported that the man was struck by a car while walking along Griffin Road, situated west of Pioneer Trail. The accident took place around 6:38 a.m.

Crash Report and Circumstances

The collision involved a 2020 Volkswagen Passat being driven by a 63-year-old Leesburg resident.

According to the FHP crash report, the driver, traveling east on Griffin Road, expressed not being able to see the pedestrian in the same lane. Unfortunately, the pedestrian was hit by the car.

Despite the driver remaining at the scene, the pedestrian was transported to a hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased, as confirmed by FHP authorities.

Ongoing Investigation and Road Closure

Following the incident, a roadblock was established in both directions on Griffin Road, remaining in effect as the Florida Highway Patrol continues its investigation.

At present, the driver of the Volkswagen involved in the collision was reported as unharmed. FHP remains actively engaged in examining the circumstances surrounding this tragic accident.
