In September 2021, fans witnessed a widely publicized NVIDIA GeForce Now database leak, which gave users access to NVIDIA’s internal database of upcoming releases. Among these were several unnamed and unannounced games, including “Tekken 8.” NVIDIA issued the following statement to WCCFTech at the time:

“NVIDIA is aware of an unofficially published game list that includes both released and speculative titles and is only used for internal tracking and testing.” Inclusion on the list does not constitute confirmation or announcement of any game. NVIDIA acted quickly to remove access to the list. There was no leak of the confidential game builds or personal information.”

Because the leak contains some speculative titles, it’s impossible to say whether the new Tekken game on the list is genuine or a forgery. However, given that a new Tekken is almost certainly on the way, we’re inclined to believe its inclusion wasn’t without merit.

Release Date for Tekken 8

Bandai Namco has yet to reveal Tekken 8 or a release date for the game as of this writing. However, we have some hints that help provide context for the next game’s release.

A recent episode of Harada’s Bar, a talk show hosted by Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada, featured pro-Street Fighter 5 player Rohto|Tokido and Virtua Fighter Producer guest appearances Seiji Aoki. Both guests attempted to persuade Harada to reveal any information about the next Tekken project.

As you might expect, Harada refused to provide any concrete information; however, EventHubs did discover one interesting tidbit. More specifically, Harada implied that Bandai Namco and Capcom would try to avoid overlapping reveals or releases.

“We always take care not to overlap release dates,” Harada said. “We make an effort not to release at the same time of year.” We don’t want to suffocate each other.”

“It’s not like we make plans or anything. We only had to read between the lines. We make an effort not to release at the same time each year. We don’t want to suffocate each other. It’s not like we make plans or anything.”

“All we did was read between the lines.” When Ono gave us a date for a critical Street Fighter announcement, we often rescheduled our announcement so that they didn’t overlap,” Harada continued. “We mostly rescheduled it. We only asked them to reschedule when necessary.”

With this in mind, we may be waiting a long time for Tekken 8. Given that Street Fighter 6 is expected to be released in early 2023, we may have to wait until the latter half of 2023 (at the very least) for Tekken 8.

What Platforms Will Tekken 8 Be Available On?

Tekken 8 announced during State of Play | VentureBeat

For the longest time, it seemed like Tekken games were only available on PlayStation consoles, but in recent releases, the game has appeared on a broader range of platforms. It’s worth noting that the series first appeared on Xbox in 2009 with Tekken 6.

Regardless, we expect Tekken 8 to be released on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and possibly the Nintendo Switch. Please reschedule with us. We only requested that they reschedule when it was necessary. On older platforms such as the PS4 and Xbox One. But given that the game has yet to be announced, we believe the game will skip the old-gen consoles.

Who Are the Characters in Tekken 8?

It’s impossible to say how extensive the roster for Tekken 8 will be at this point, but it appears that the seasonal model has worked well for the game. It’s worth noting that Tekken 7 debuted with 36 characters, with many more added as post-launch DLC.

We anticipate that Tekken 8 will launch with a similar number of characters and will continue to add more in the future. It’s a system that has previously worked, and while some fans may want it to be a complete version of the game at launch. There will be King of Fighters, Final Fantasy XV’s Noctis, and even Negan from The Walking Dead.

Similarly, we anticipate that the game will continue to feature many guest characters in the future. We saw Akuma from Street Fighter, Geese Howard from King of Fighters, and Final Fantasy XV’s Noctis. Even Negan from The Walking Dead in Tekken 7. Where will

We’d like to see characters from Darkstalkers, Virtua Fighter, and possibly Luke from Street Fighter. He appears to be Capcom’s new poster boy for the series and would be a good fit for Tekken.

What Do Professional Players Want From Tekken 8?

In 2021, Red Bull spoke with several professional players about what they expected from the next game in the series. We talked to Hoa ‘Anakin’ Luu and Kana ‘Tanukana’ Tani from the site and recommended reading the entire interview. Which should take about 10 minutes or so.

When speaking with the pros, they discuss everything from how Tekken 8 should approach net code to guest characters and new mechanics that could be introduced.
We won’t post too many quotes because we believe you should read the entire interview.

We especially liked this segment from Kana about the importance of having a good net code at launch:

“In November 2020, Tekken 7 received a long-awaited large-scale update that included various character updates and system additions.”

The improvement of the netcode was one of the most talked-about updates among Japanese players. Players can now compete at a high level in Japan and other Asian countries. I am learning how to compete with new and strong players daily.”
