Bloomberg reports that the tech giant, T-mobile will terminate employees’ contracts who don’t complete COVID-19 vaccines by April 2nd.
T-Mobile confirmed the deadline following the outlet’s acquisition of an internal email from its chief human resources officer, Deeanne King.
In the email, she said the company will place employees who only received one dose on unpaid leave as of February 21st.
“T-Mobile’s badge-controlled offices continue to be accessible only to those who are vaccinated against COVID-19 and we have shared with employees that we are requiring office workers to be fully vaccinated by April 2nd,” a T-Mobile spokesperson told Engadget.
“We understand that this is a deeply personal decision for some employees but we believe that taking this step will put us in the best position to protect our T-Mobile community.”
T-mobile told The Verge that there will be exemptions “for certain roles, locations and legally mandated accommodations and exemptions.”
Bloomberg reports that T-Mobile will not put customer service employees on unpaid leave if they have received only one dose of the vaccine by February 21st.
The company will also not impose the mandate on store employees and field technicians if they have received one dose.
Similar deadlines have been imposed by other large US companies.
Workers at Google, for instance, must declare their vaccination status by January 18th.
If a worker refuses to get shots or fails to obtain a valid exemption, the company will place him or her on paid administrative leave for 30 days.
If they fail to comply with the policy, they will be placed on unpaid leave for up to six months, and eventually fired.
