According to prosecutors, a 36-year-old Brooklyn man who was intoxicated by cocaine, marijuana, and alcohol at the time of a fatal Belt Parkway collision in 2020 entered a plea of guilty to aggravated manslaughter.
According to Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz, Jason Bical was going 92 mph on the Belt Parkway when he struck and killed a 63-year-old driver who was stopped for a minor accident. Katz also added that Bical was impaired at the time of the collision two years ago.
Bical will be given a sentence on December 13 that could range from five to fifteen years in jail. Prosecutors claim that on December 9, 2020, at around 12:45 a.m., Bical was traveling at 92 mph in a white 2017 Chevrolet Malibu at 131st Street on the Belt Parkway when he crashed with Taher Ali Hassan.
Hassan was taken to a hospital in a hurry, but the severe head injuries he suffered in the collision led to his death.
Bical had a blood alcohol content of.174, which was twice the legal limit. Bical, however, also had cocaine and marijuana in his system at the time of the fatal collision, according to new toxicology reports. Katz added that Bical’s car, which belonged to his family-run business, Bical Chevrolet of Valley Stream, was found to have two zip-top packages of cocaine in the center console.
