Biden Administration Extends Nonessential Travel Ban Across Its Borders

Despite the mounting pressure to lift the travel restriction, the Biden Administration has instead extended its ban on nonessential travel across the Canada & Mexico borders.

This has come after the recent surge in COVID-19 cases in the United States. For the past two weeks, the US is continuously reporting 100K+ cases in a single day.

So, to stop the further spread of the delta variant of Coronavirus the government was left with no choice. But to tighten the COVID-19 travel restriction across its borders.

The Department of Homeland Security put out a tweet on Friday explaining the current travel situation amid the increasing number of coronavirus cases.

As you can see in the screenshot, the DHS extended the ban until Sept. 21. And if new COVID-19 cases continue to pile up, this ban can even extend past the finalized date.

Before the U.S. government made this announcement official, U.S. border communities that are dependent on Canadian & Mexican shoppers, requested the Biden administration to lift the ban.

Apart from the U.S., Canada has finally started to allow fully vaccinated U.S. citizens into the country.

Department of Homeland Security also said it is working with public health and medical experts to find the safest& sustainable way to resume normal travel across how to “safely and sustainably resume normal travel.”

From March 2020, the travel restrictions in the United States are active since March 2020.

Because of the surge in COVID-19 cases, time & again, the US government has repeatedly extended travel restrictions across its borders. Therefore only allowing commercial traffic and essential crossings to continue.
