About $1,800 stimulus check will be sent to families before December 15, by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) as part of the 2021 Child Tax Credit.
This money is part of the $1.9 trillion stimulus package passed by Congress to soften the impact of the pandemic on U.S. citizens.
Families get financial assistance, in the form of monthly payments of $250 to $300 for each child under the age of 17. However, families prefer to get the money in a lump sum instead of a monthly check later in the year. Once the IRS confirms their eligibility, they will be paid the lump sum counting from July of 2021.
In a statement, the IRS said many families who signed up before Nov. 15 are getting a lump sum for all the missed monthly payments in December.
“This means a payment of up to $1,800 for each child under 6,” the IRS said. “And up to $1,500 for each child age 6 to 17. This is the same total amount that most other families have been receiving in up to six monthly payments that began in July.”
Families will get $3,000 total for each child between the ages of 6 and 17 years old, and another $2,000 to $3,600 for each child under the age of six in the Child Tax Credit scheme.
The plan was to distribute half of this money in monthly payments from July to December of 2021, then include the other half in tax returns filed at the beginning of 2022.
Eligible persons who could not register on Nov. 15 deadline will get their money in a lump sum in 2022 when they file their tax.
