More than 230 cats and dogs were taken into custody by animal control police after they discovered them in an inhumane environment at a shelter outside of Los Angeles, officials said on Monday.
A search warrant was executed last week at the property in rural Llano, roughly 60 miles (95 km) northeast of downtown Los Angeles, leading to the seizures. In a statement, the LA County Department of Animal Care and Control said.
The statement claimed that the unnamed rescue group had been suspected of exceeding the allowed number of animals and neglecting to provide adequate medical attention.
According to officials, police removed 195 cats and 43 dogs, including six deceased animals. They were dispersed among the seven care facilities run by the division, where they were assessed and given care.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office will be consulted regarding whether or not to file a case.
