Suspect Arrested In Fatal New Year’s Eve Hit-and-Run In Horry County
In the Horry County hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of a teenager on New Year’s Eve, police made an arrest. According to the Horry County Detention Center, Daniel Jay Leaser is accused of hit-and-run, which is the responsibility of a driver in a fatal collision. Although his bond was set at $50,000, according to online records, he is still behind bars.
Austin Barnard, 15, was the victim when he was struck by a car on Highway 17 Business, according to Tamara Willard, the chief deputy coroner for Horry County.
According to officials, Barnard was strolling west along the vicinity of 3055 Highway 17 Business near Stanley Drive when the crash occurred around 5:45 a.m. Three miles south of Surfside Beach is where you may find this.

Willard stated that Barnard passed away at the scene from “multiple traumatic injuries” and that an autopsy was planned for later this week.
The driver, who was later identified as Leaser, was the only person in the car and was not hurt, according to the troopers. The sole other vehicle in the incident was the leaser’s car.
Lance The South Carolina Highway Patrol’s (SCHP) Cpl. Lena Butler verified that Leaser was detained in relation to the fatal collision.
