A businessman and longtime resident of San Francisco is speaking out after he was assaulted violently in Lower Pacific Heights on Sunday night. Richard Titus claimed that one of the reasons he is telling his tale is to help others remember to always be vigilant, especially in familiar settings or seemingly secure areas.
He hopes that more individuals will speak out about these atrocities so that public leaders would be aware of the need for a better standard of living in San Francisco. Around 9:30 p.m., Titus claimed to have just parked his automobile near Sutter and Baker Streets and taken a short stroll to a friend’s house. He thinks the potential suspects might have wanted his valuable Rolex Daytona.
I was strolling up the street, minding my own way, when I heard footsteps behind me. Suddenly, “Bam,” I felt something hit the back of my head, and I fell to my knees, said Titus. “I stood up and turned around to find two attackers. one with a bar and one without. I took a swing at the person closest to me who wasn’t holding anything.”
The suspects then fled, according to Titus. He had what turned out to be a severe concussion, and his memories of the incident were jumbled. He will need several weeks to heal because of the five staples in the back of his head.
I am 6-foot-2. When I was bleeding and standing on a street corner in the cold, I didn’t actually realize how terrible the injury was, Titus said. I only desired to return home, wrap up my head, and retire to bed.
He claimed he decided against dialing 911 because he anticipated a slow police response. He was also unaware of the extent of his wounds. He went to the hospital the following day, on Halloween, to get checked out. There, staff employees made a report by calling the police.
But throughout his 10-hour stay, nobody appeared. Later, SFPD instructed him to complete it inside the police station. I am 6-foot-2. Very disappointed, I mean I was very happy with the response today,” he said. “I was disappointed they didn’t come for the police report.” After receiving attention on social media, Titus thinks a police officer eventually came to the house where he’s living on Tuesday afternoon to finalize the paperwork.
“Even in the hazardous years, 15 years ago, I always felt comfortable in San Francisco, but even before this incident it feels more sinister, and the police response seems slower,” he continued. Along with advising people to pay closer attention to their surroundings:
He stated, “I’d like to see the city and law enforcement take some action.” I want criminals to be held accountable, thus, I believe there needs to be a closer connection between the mayor’s office and law enforcement.
The two suspects were described as being about 5 feet tall. Each of them was sporting a baseball cap and sweatshirt. On Tuesday, police took note of any structures that might have security cameras. Titus added that he had been sober during the entire episode. He has actually been drug-free for the past 30 years.
