Northampton County Executive Announces Director’s Resignation After Election Criticism

Northampton County Executive Announces Director’s Resignation After Election Criticism: After problems in the recent election, the leader of Northampton County, Lamont McClure, shared that his administration’s director, Charles M. Dertinger, resigned.

The trouble arose because the voting machines made mistakes in printing votes for the Pennsylvania Superior Court during the November 7 election.

Even though the Election Commission certified the results, McClure criticized the errors, pointing to issues in both the 2019 and 2023 elections. Despite this, McClure recognized Dertinger’s achievements.

Northampton County exec announces director’s resignation, calls election ‘failure’:

The issue during the 2023 Election Day concerned votes for U.S. Superior Court Judges, affecting about 2,400 voters. There was confusion due to a mistake in printing the names differently from the touchscreen.

Audits were conducted to check the election accuracy, including a 2% sample audit and a Risk-Limiting Audit (RLA) by the Department of State. These audits aimed to confirm the election’s accuracy and detect any potential problems.
