Jessica Pettway’s Cause Of Death
Jessica Pettway, a beauty, fashion, and mom blogger, died at the age of 36 from cervical cancer. E! Online says that her sister Reyni shared the news on Instagram. “It’s my birthday today, and the only thing I could ever wish for is for God to bring you back on this earth. I lost my beautiful big sister 2 days ago, and my heart has never felt pain like this,” Reyni wrote next to a picture of the two of them.
Reyni said that her sister was “amazing, strong, and sure of herself.” She also said that her sister was “so wise, prayed for me, and helped me become a better mother.”

Pettway and her spouse Michael have two kids together: 10-year-old Kailee and 3-year-old Zoi Lee. The mother of two made news last year when she talked about being diagnosed with multiple uterus fibroids from July 2022 to January 2023. This led to her being diagnosed with stage 3 cervical cancer in July 2023.
Pettway wrote in a post, “On Feb. 8th, 2023, he performed an outpatient biopsy on me. When I woke up from the anesthesia, he casually said, ‘Yep you have stage 3 cervical cancer.’ It turns out, it was not a fibroid, but cancer. I was misdiagnosed all this time.”
She said, “I remember hearing that and immediately saying to myself, ‘I refuse to make an agreement with that diagnosis.’ And so I didn’t. Being told I had cancer didn’t devastate me. It was the reaction of those close to me.”
People were quick to point out the “brokenness” of a medical system that keeps ignoring, misdiagnosing, or ignoring the needs of Black women. One person wrote, “No one did imaging, or pap smear for those initial visits/concerns. I just want to cry so hard for this as a black woman myself.”
Even though she was given a bad diagnosis, Pettway stayed positive. In August 2023, she posted about how her family was dealing with her illness.
“Anytime you’re dealing with an illness, it not only affects you, but it also changes the lives of those closest to you. This year rocked our world. From the countless hospital stays. To the financial strain. We have been through it all,” she wrote in the Instagram post.
She finished her story by saying how much it hurt her while her girls worried about her and her husband helped her get better while she was sick. She was thankful for her family, her faith, and the love she received from everyone.
She wrote under the picture of her family of four, “This photo makes me smile because I can see the individual happiness on each of our faces. So many new changes are happening in my life, and it’s kind of scary. But I prayed for it and as long as I follow God and hold on to my family, the blessing we’ve been waiting for will blow our minds!”
