Speeding Motorcyclist Meets Tragic End on U.S. Hwy. 27

Witnesses indicate that before a tragic crash that closed U.S. Hwy. 27 in Lake County, a motorcycle rider was speeding.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol accident report, at 5:10 p.m. on Friday, the 72-year-old Orlando man driving a 2020 Lexus RX, who was travelling south on U.S. Hwy. 27, made a left turn onto Schofield Road, striking the 31-year-old Davenport man who was riding a 2017 Suzuki motorcycle northbound on U.S. Hwy. 27 approaching Schofield Road in Clermont.

The Lexus moved into the motorcycle’s straight line of travel. The biker was flung from the bike and landed in the northbound lane of U.S. Hwy. 27 when the two automobiles collided. At the scene, he was declared deceased. The report stated that he had been wearing a helmet.

FHP traffic homicide detectives were informed by “multiple witnesses” that the motorcycle rider had been exceeding the posted speed limit.

Two Orlando residents, one 43 years old and the other 63, were among the two passengers in the Lexus who had minor injuries. The South Lake Hospital provided them with care.

For the duration of the crash investigation, U.S. Hwy. 27 at Schofield Road was closed in both directions (north and south).
