The corpse of a dismembered woman was discovered in a freezer at an Arcadia Terrace residence on Monday night, after the owner was reported missing, police said.

Most residents in the 5900 block of North Washtenaw Avenue, just north of Thorndale Avenue, were familiar with the woman.

Some were nice with their pets, while others were welcomed into the community.
It is now thought that the victim of this terrible crime was this lovely woman.

In the meantime, a Halloween sign remained on the concrete steps. Those familiar with the longstanding resident placed flowers and candles in the pouring rain.

Phoebe Salzmann, a neighbour, said, “When we initially moved here five years ago, she came over to greet us, and a few years later, she brought Halloween candy for the children.”

Brendan Deenihan, Chief of Detectives of the Chicago Police Department, said that the lady owns a residence and leases out rooms to renters.

At about 7 p.m. on Monday, one of these renters contacted the police to report the lady missing.

Deenihan says that the renter who called the police told them that a suspect was living in the house and that other people there were afraid of him.

“Caller wishes to report her acquaintance as missing,” stated a dispatcher over the police radio. “I suppose they are stating that she is at the residence and there is blood on the walls and floor.”

Renter Reports

This renter reported that the suspect recently contacted a tow truck and hauled a hefty bag out to the truck.

Salzmann said, “I was an eyewitness. I believe I saw something transpire. “

Salzmann said that, while walking her dog, she saw a lady carrying what looked to be a hefty plastic bag from the house.

Why is she exiting her home towards the street yet her garbage can is in the backyard? Salzmann stated.

“Also, I remember that the lady was wearing a black puffy coat, which I found odd given that it was 70 degrees outdoors.”

The Tow Truck Driver Reports

Tow truck driver said that his firm was summoned to pick up a Chevy Equinox from an address on Washtenaw Avenue. The owner of the car, who is the suspect, rode in the backseat.

He said that the suspect was acting oddly and drew a knife on him at the conclusion of the journey. He suffered no harm.

The renter who phoned police had exchanged contact information with the tow truck driver.

Subsequent investigation revealed that the suspect had placed a huge plastic bag into a trash can at Foster Beach, about three miles east of the residence.

When investigators examined the trash can, they discovered bloody towels, sealed the crime scene and handed over the trash can and its contents to the office of the Cook County Medical Examiner.

The missing woman’s residence was also searched, where human bones were discovered in a freezer. Sources tell East County Gazette that the corpse had been dismembered.

Investigation Revealed Huge Plastic bag at Foster Beach

Deenihan says that after the body was found, investigators got a warrant to search the house for more evidence. “We have a long way to go, but we feel that the person we recovered is the missing person.”

The tow truck driver said to East County Gazette that he had no clue the lady travelling in his vehicle with the plastic bag was perhaps involved in a killing.

According to what the driver was told by the police, a human head was found in the freezer.

Salzmann said, “It gives me the shivers.”

Police arrested the suspect for aggravated assault with a weapon after the tow truck driver reported that the suspect had drawn a knife on him.

The driver informed that he was unaware that the lady he was transporting may have been involved in a killing. On Monday evening, he was informed by police that “a human head” had been discovered in the freezer.

The police are awaiting the Medical Examiner’s findings, but they are certain that the human remains belong to the missing landlord.

In relation to the current murder investigation, Deenihan said that the suspect exercised her right to stay quiet.
