Pensacola police announced a woman with a history of mental health issues who thought her teenage disabled daughter was an intruder killed her while lying in a hospital bed.
The 34-year-old mother of the 14-year-old girl allegedly struck seven times with a metal cane before she died on July 23. The attack happened inside the Orlando Regional Medical Center, according to WFTV.
The woman also allegedly told investigators that tormenting her daughter led to the teen’s death. Investigators had been called previously for reports of the mother and daughter abusing each other.

Police Investigations
On Saturday morning, officers found them both barefoot in a car outside the hospital parking garage.
The mother was taken into custody and jailed on charges of second-degree murder and aggravated child abuse.
Police said her 17-year-old daughter was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and a seizure disorder when she was a baby. The girl, who had recently celebrated her high school graduation, received treatment at the hospital for migraines.
The teen suffered from an intellectual disability and had trouble speaking with other people, according to WKMG. She also had a severe speech impediment.
According to an arrest report, the mother told police that she became enraged when she discovered the teenager in bed next to her in Orlando Regional’s intensive care unit after returning home from a vacation on July 21.

The daughter was lying in bed with her eyes closed, but her mother thought she was trying to look like she was sleeping.
When the woman threatened to hurt herself and then tried to reach into an IV bag, hospital staff ordered her out of the room.
But when she returned hours later, she brandished a cane and began shouting “Die!” according to the police report.
The woman then struck her daughter seven times in the head with a metal cane before an employee and security guards could restrain her. The daughter died from blunt-force trauma, Lt. Jim Young said.
The woman was taken to the hospital’s psych ward for a mental evaluation, and she is expected to face a judge on Monday, WKMG reported.
