Hulu’s newest true-crime series, “The Girl From Plainville,” focuses on Michelle Carter, the girl convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the now-famous “texting suicide” case of Conrad Roy III.
The limited series, which features Elle Fanning, Colton Ryan, and Chlo Sevigny, chronicles the circumstances behind Roy’s suicide and Carter’s subsequent trial.

The trial of Carter drew a lot of attention because many people saw it as a potential test of the law.
Carter’s lawyers maintained she was not legally responsible for Roy’s death, even though everyone agrees her actions contributed to his untimely demise.
Although lawmakers are seeking to enact a law dubbed Conrad’s Law (which would make it illegal to pressure someone into suicide), there is currently no such law in effect in Massachusetts.
Five years have passed since Carter’s conviction, and you may be curious about the 25-year-current old’s whereabouts. This is the latest information we have regarding Carter’s whereabouts at this time.
Exactly what did Michelle Carter do?
Carter and Roy first met in Florida in 2012 while on separate family holidays. The couple began dating despite the fact that they lived an hour apart in different Massachusetts towns.
They stayed together for almost two years despite the distance. Toxic carbon monoxide was the cause of death for 18-year-old Roy, who was discovered in his pickup truck in July 2014.
Carter, who was at her parents’ house approximately an hour away from where Roy was dying in Fairhaven, MA, eventually admitted that she had been on the phone with him at the time of his death but had chosen not to call for aid.
In fact, she apparently texted Roy multiple times before his suicide, urging him to take his own life, as reported by the Washington Post.
According to ABC and court testimony, Carter admitted to texting witnesses about Roy’s death.
I do blame myself. It’s my responsibility. She told a student just two days after Roy’s death. While he was killing himself, we were having a conversation.
As of the end of February 2015, Carter was charged with involuntary manslaughter.
After being arrested in 2015, her trial didn’t take place until June 2017, at which point a judge judged her guilty and handed her a sentence of two and a half years in jail.
A reduction in the sentence to 15 months was made later.

What Happened to Michelle Carter?
Carter was granted an early release from Massachusetts’ Bristol County Jail in January 2020 due to his excellent behavior. She is still in the midst of her five-year probationary period.
Carter has avoided the spotlight since her release from prison more than two years ago.
Despite HBO and Hulu airing shows and documentaries inspired by her story, the now-25-year-old has kept a low profile online and hasn’t spoken publicly.
Since her probation doesn’t expire until August 2022, it’s safe to presume she stays in the US.
Considering all the attention Carter has received, it’s hardly surprising that she’s staying out of the spotlight in 2022.
New episodes of “The Girl From Plainville” are available on Hulu every Tuesday.
