When Not On The Ski Runs, Chloe Kim Talks About Fashion, Acting, And Prince Harry

Chloe Kim is beaming.

The two-time Olympic gold medalist sits on a fluffy white couch in her Venice, Los Angeles, home. Even over Zoom, The midmorning sunlight is visible, streaming in through a nearby window. Kim’s Australian Shepherd, Reese, keeps appearing unexpectedly on the monitor.

“She adores her morning attention.” So she’ll be in and out,” Kim told WWD. “She’s also very needy, which I adore.” Nothing beats a good morning hug.”
Kim is soft-spoken and appears laid-back, but she has a lot to say. In between training (she has previously stated that she intends to compete in the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy), she is modeling, acting, promoting social issues with Prince Harry, and considering a return to Princeton.
Kim recently collaborated with apparel and sportswear firm Roxy on a design project, her first as a fashion designer. The first installment, Chloe Kim Signature Collection, will be available on Wednesday.

“It was probably “I’ve had the most enjoyment recently,” Kim admitted. “You know, I think The ability to work was the best aspect with people who are so open to and happy to work with whatever I came up with, and just kind of made it come to life.”
“I knew what colors I wanted to use and everything.” But then there’s the matter of picking up the zipper and deciding where to put the pockets. That sort of thing was a little tricky. “But it was still a lot of fun,” the athlete continued. “At the end of the day, I spoke with many designer friends.” Cynthia Rowley, for example, is also in a relationship with Roxy. ‘Just make whatever you want,’ she said. And when she told me that, I changed my approach and stopped driving myself insane thinking about what other people would want. And just making things that I’d like.”

As a result, a 10-piece apparel and accessories collection featuring puffy jackets, snow pants, gloves, and hats in various colors has been created.

The bright red snow jacket is Kim’s favorite.
“That just kind of kicked off the whole thing,” she explained. “All I wanted to do was wear something bright and fun.” And I was really into it. I got this: I had a playboy jacket in that color that I always wore. And I thought I’d like to have this on the mountain because it’s so beautiful and fun. Furthermore, people can see you from a mile away. As a result, you’ll never lose your friends.

“I believe it was just a continuation of the theme of “What should I wear on the mountain?”
” She went on. (Kim confirmed that she only competes in Roxy outerwear but has previously worn Skims innerwear.)
“To be honest, [the Roxy collection] is exactly like me,” Kim added. “It’s almost as if I poured everything I had into it, but it was my first [time designing].” So I think I just wanted to incorporate everything that I enjoy.”
Kim was equally enthusiastic about her decision to work with Roxy. She joined the company in 2019.

“Growing up, I was always a huge Roxy fan, you know?”

” she explained. “[Australian Olympic medalist Torah Bright] was a huge idol of mine.” And after seeing how well she and Roxy worked together, I’ve always thought I’d like the chance to work with Roxy myself one day.”

The Roxy x Chloe Kim collaboration is well underway for several future collections. “I believe we’re working on one that will be released in 2025.” Isn’t that insane? ” she explained.

Kim, on the other hand, has other projects — and ambitions.
She’s appeared on the covers of Sports Illustrated and Time magazines, appeared at the Met Gala wearing a Giambattista Valli Couture gown, has a role in Fortnite, speaks out against mental illness, and still found time to make a guest visit to “The Late Late Show With James Corden” earlier this year. Her Instagram page displays her. Regularly traveling to new places worldwide. There’s no doubt about it: Chloe Kim is on fire.

Could she also find time to launch her fashion line?

“I’ve always fantasized about having my brand one day.” “But I’m not sure how soon or how late that would be,” she said. “[However], I don’t think I’d do [a] snow [brand].” I’d stick to street style. Just because I spend four months of the year in the mountains? And I spend the rest of the year in Los Angeles. So just having that covered would be entertaining. But, sure. That’s not even in the works right now, so I will focus all of my design energy on Roxy until that day arrives. I’m honestly just using this as practice [with Roxy] to see if [fashion] is something I’d like to pursue after I finish my [snowboarding] career. But for the time being, it’s just a fun little side gig.”
Acting is another option. Kim began attending auditions “maybe a month ago, and it’s been fun,” She hopes to land a role in a comedy.

“Just because I enjoy telling jokes,” Kim explained. “I’d love to mess around on set; it’d be fun.” I believe [acting] is something I’ve always wanted to try. So that’s been my main focus these days. But, you know, using my platform to discuss mental health and other global issues has been highly beneficial.”

This includes collaborating with Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex and chief impact officer at coaching and mental health start-up BetterUp, on a mental fitness conversation.

Kim described Prince Harry as “probably the sweetest person; one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met in my life.” “Like, we had a fantastic conversation on and off camera.” And just so genuine and kind, and, of course, everything they’re doing over at BetterUp is just incredible, and they’re talking about issues that need to be discussed. So, you know, I’m just going with the flow. “I’ll take whatever comes my way.”

With so many projects on the go, it’s difficult to predict where Kim will appear next — or which of her priorities will take precedence. “What’s next for me?” she muses aloud. Kim has stated that fashion will always be important to her.

“I just think, especially growing up in L.A. and traveling the world at such a young age, [fashion] was always like a little piece of home I could bring with me wherever I went,” she explained. “I feel like I can express myself through what I wear, and it’s been a nice outlet for me.”

“As long as you know that it’s fun and super cozy, and I’m obsessed with it — so you will be, too — that’s all you need to know,” Kim said of her first collaboration with Roxy.
