Watch: When Google's Sundar Pichai Forgot To Unmute Himself on Video Call

Because of the coronavirus pandemic, which drove us to move in-person meetings to video chats, we may have all done it at least once, if not numerous times, throughout the last 1.5 years.

It was Google’s Indian-American CEO Sundar Pichai’s turn to switch his microphone off by accident while having a video conversation.

When Pichai was engaged in a Google Meet conversation with Muppet character Kermit the Frog as part of YouTube’s “Dear Earth” series, the little slip-up occurred.

“Always remember to unmute,” Pichai tweeted today, thanking Kermit the Frog for taking part in the chat. He also posted a video of their conversation.

“Hey there, Sundar…” said Kermit the Frog, starting up their conversation. While Google’s CEO spoke, he had accidentally left his microphone on mute for a few seconds, allowing Kermit the Frog to remark how much he liked that joke.“Wow, I can’t believe I’m chatting to the CEO of Google and he isn’t responding.”

Pichai was subsequently muted for 11 seconds, at which time he apologised for the mistake.

“Sorry Kermit the Frog, I was on mute and had done it a few times this year like everyone else,” he apologized.

During the short discussion, Sundar Pichai and Kermit the Frog discussed their favorite YouTube videos, what it means to be green, and the Muppets’ appearance during YouTube’s “Dear Earth” special.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai told The Times of India that he and his children have been watching a lot of YouTube videos and learning how to make pizza. He also enjoys watching scientific, football, and cricket highlights on YouTube.

“I love cricket, yummy,” Kermit the Frog said.

“I think I’m talking about a different kind of cricket,” Pichai responded.
