Vigil for gun violence victims calls for end to senseless bloodshed

Data from the Chicago Police Department shows that more than 3,300 individuals have been shot so far this year, a decrease of 20% from the same time last year.

On Sunday, Chicagoans from all walks of life gathered to honor those lost to the city’s gun violence. It was a time to think about disasters that, supposedly, could have been avoided.

Family and friends crammed into the chapel to pay their respects and demand an end to the citywide gun carnage that had claimed so many lives.

Pastor Matt DeMateo from New Life Centers in Little Village stated, “It’s crucial that we walk together through grief, through sadness, through healing, and remind ourselves that we need each other.”

The hearts of their loved ones who are still alive are in ruins despite the fact that their photographs of happy times have been placed at the front of the chapel.

Lutrice Boyd, who lost a son to gun violence in 2012, stated, “I feel like a part of me is missing.”

Boyd witnessed her son Frederick Giles’s final moments of life in 2012. “Extremely distressing.

Um, it came as a complete surprise to me to find my son lying in the street, “Boyd thought back.

On Sunday night, nearly a decade after the Sandy Hook school tragedy, people gathered at Augustana Lutheran Church in Hyde Park to memorialize the victims of gun violence.

This suffering was felt by many Chicagoans and was a rallying cry for an end to the gun violence that has plagued the city.

“Just try to convince me that we can’t get anything done right now. In fact, we need to.

It’s the only just, moral course of action, “The Mayor of Chicago made the following statement: Lori Lightfoot.

Data from the Chicago Police Department shows that more than 3,300 individuals have been shot in Chicago this year as of Friday.

In comparison to the same period last year, that’s a 20% decrease, according to the police. Jezebel Perez, a young mother of two, was shot and killed in Little Village in August and is one of the many victims.

“And I buried her when she was only 22. A young girl of six, a young boy of thirteen, an eight-year-old child, and a young woman of twenty-two all perish terribly, “As Pastor DeMateo put it.

The pain that no one sought has escalated into calls for an end to the senseless killing. “I pray no one ever has to walk in such shoes because they were never made for human feet,” Boyd said.

Jacki Sundheim’s birthday was on Sunday. Therefore today would have been her 40th.

Highland Park Mayor Nancy Rotering said that she was among the people killed in the incident on July 4.
