On one of the steepest areas of the interstate’s embankments, a car crashed over a guardrail on Interstate 70 on Friday night, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

The drop is thought to be roughly 1,000 feet, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

At approximately 7 p.m., the car was traveling east on I-70 when it crossed the railing at milepost 211, close to the Eisenhower Tunnel, according to CSP.

Initially stranded inside the car, one individual was freed by CSP and other emergency personnel during a rescue effort. The person was taken to a hospital, and as of right now, it’s unclear how they are doing.

Tonight’s heavy snowfall in the mountains is affecting the state of the I-70 highway. Although snowplows are in use, motorists are advised to use caution if they must travel on Friday night.
