US Evacuates Over 11,000 Americans, Afghans Over the Weekend

Ever since the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan, the U.S. has been continuously evacuating American citizens, at-risk Afghans. Today, President Biden updated the media about their accelerated effort over this weekend.

Also, there have been talks among military officials to extend the evacuation process beyond the deadline of August 31. Biden said, “Our hope is we will not have to extend, but there are discussions.”

One week after the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan, the U.S. military has airlifted 28,000 people. This includes 11K individuals who departed from the Kabul airports this weekend.

When the Taliban took over Afghanistan, there was a sense of urgency & panic among those who wanted to get out of Kabul. However, in the past few days, U.S. forces have successfully managed to improve access to the airport for Americans & Afghans waiting to board a plane.

He said, “What I’m not going to do is talk about the tactical changes we’re making to make sure we maintain as much security as we can, “We have constantly, how can I say it, increased rational access to the airport, where more folk can get there more safely. It’s still a dangerous operation but I don’t want to go into the detail of how we’re doing that.”

He then added, “We’ve discussed a lot with the Taliban. They’ve been cooperative in extending some of the perimeters.”

Even though President Biden didn’t provide complete details on the safe passage, he stated,” Any American who wants to get home, will get home.”

Earlier in the morning, there were talks among Administration officials considering “Creative Ways” to provide safe passage to the Americans & others into the Kabul Airport.

Also, earlier, many Republicans criticized President Biden for flying the Afghan refugees directly into the United States as many extremist groups can exploit the chaos & get entry into the country.

However, shunned everyone & said the refugees are first getting screened in third countries & then arriving in the United States.
